A fabulous and rare Nakara Wave Crest dresser box by C.F. Monroe in a very large size, this box weighs nearly 5 lbs! This gorgeous opaque or opal ware box is hand decorated in a spring green with various flowers and raised beading on each side and a center medallion on top, further decorated with raised enamel scroll in the Rococo style, highlighted in gold. The jar has brass ormolu fittings with a working hinge and retains its original gold silk liner. We also believe this to be executed in a glossy finish vs the acid which is not as often seen.
Hand written red numbers on bottom 3213 over 26, inside metal is marked '282' on the top and bottom near the hinge, not signed but most of C.F. Monroe's higher quality pieces were not.
Measures: approx 7" wide & 4" tall
No chips. cracks, or nicks. Decoration is intact, silk lining is intact, a magnificent example of art glass.
