Caleb Arnold Slade Oil on Panel `Venice Canal' Charming oil on board scene of a Venice Canal with a floating gondola among Italy's beautiful architectural buildings. Housed in Foster Bros'. frame, gold decorated with hand carved design.

Slade captures colors and mood of the moment wonderfully. Known for his canal scenes, this painting is everything that is magnificent of Slade's work.

Signed Lower Right "CA Slade"

Measures 15½" tall by 12" wide. measuring 21" tall by 17½" wide,

Still retains a Foster Bros. label to reverse. Foster Bros. was a renowned framing company in Boston; this is quite possibly the original frame to the painting.

Overall very good condition with very minor craquelature in the boat area; frame rubbing along edges.

Caleb Arnold Slade (American, 1882-1961) Slade was born in Acushnet, MA, in 1882 and graduated from Brown University in 1904. In 1905 Slade traveled to France to study at the renowned Academie Julian. He established a studio in Paris and often traveled to Italy where he executed many beautiful Venetian canal and landscape scenes.
Slade became well recognized within his own time and received various solo exhibitions, as well as, critical appraise for his American Impressionist paintings. Slade is well represented in many museums and collections, including the Gardener Museum in Boston, London's Royal Albert Hall, and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
